More Information

Amy X Neuburg & The Cello ChiXtet celebrate the CD release of "The Secret Language of Subways" -- an 'avant-cabaret' song cycle for voice and 3 cellos, with live electronic percussion, looping and processing.

"A wonderful performer/composer... ('The Secret LanguageŠ') songs channel the rhythms of urban life through the seriocomic sensibility of a born entertainer." -- Joshua Kosman, SF Chronicle

"Amazing, triumphant, ambitious and soaring... There really is something evocative about the NYC subway that triggers the creative spirit. Mix in the Iraq war and 9/11, and you've got fertile ground for lots of fragments and images that coalesce into the songs that form the 'Subways' cycle." -- Craig Matsumoto, KZSU

More cellos! Opening the show will be the incomparable Zoë Keating performing her one-woman orchestra of solo works for looped cello.

Singer, songwriter and electronic instrument performer Amy X Neuburg has developed a unique career bridging the boundaries between classical, experimental and popular musics. Her wildly entertaining 'avant-cabaret' songs combine her interests in poetry and theater, expressive use of music technology, and exploration of multiple genres using the many colors of her four-octave vocal range. She has been called "a one-woman musical hurricane" (Otago Times, New Zealand), "the most brilliant looping artist of our time" (Santa Cruz Metro), and "a phenomenal voice, a master with looping/processing electronics" (New York Press). The glamorous and virtuosic Cello ChiXtet -- Elaine Kreston, Jess Ivry, and Beth Vandervennet -- bring to Amy's songs an enormous variety of experience in classical, rock, jazz, experimental and world musics.
